Pepper, Long

Piperaceae Piper longum L., P. chaled Hunter

These two species are similar in growth habit and culture to black pepper. The spikes are gathered when they begin to color red or yellow, and dried rapidly. They may be used directly in pickling and are also ground and used in preserves or curries. They are grown mainly in South Asia, and some are exported to Europe.
