New Crops News, Spring 1991, Vol. 1 No. 1

New Crops Initiative

Purdue’s New Crop Initiative is underway with a substantial grant for 1990-1991 from the Indiana Corporation for Science and Technology. Three broad projects involving the Departments of Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Horticulture, and Forestry and Natural Resources are on stream: Expansion of Canola Production in Indiana; Specialty Crop Commercialization; and Development of Edible Soybean. The formation of a New Crops Center at Purdue University has been formally approved. This first issue of New Crops News is designed as a means of communication between all those interested in New Crops and the activities of the Center.

Plans are underway for the 2nd National New Crops Symposium to be held October 6-9, 1991 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Indianapolis. The Proceedings of the first symposium held in Indianapolis have been published by Timber Press in a 560-page book entitled Advances in New Crops.

We are especially interested in contacting all those interested in new crops. Successful development of new crops and plant products requires a working partnership between scientists, farmers, industry, and government. We invite collaborative research with industry. Please write, phone, or FAX us to get on our mailing list.
