Short’s Produce Gardens

Commiskey, Summer 2003

Larry Short offers his “baby mizuna” greens in a Hoosier Fresh bag. Plastic mulch warms the soil and eliminates weeds in the row.
The hoophouse supplied by the project was constructed next to a wood frame structure. This small hoophouse can be both heated and cooled using readily available equipment.
Both the mizuna in front and the arugula to the rear ready for harvest. Arugula and beets are grown in adjacent pure stands in raised boxes.
Larry tells Jules, Dave, and Bud how his daughter and grandkids help with the gardens. Wading pools of potting soil blocked up on cattle gates make easy harvesting.

A variety of greens and lettuce make up this mesclun mix.
