Leading producers of watermelons in the U.S. are Texas, Georgia, Florida and California. The 1997 U.S. watermelon crop was harvested from 184,600 acres with a total yield of 40,734,000 cwt (average yield = 221cwt/acre), and a total value of $309,230,000.
In 1997, U.S. watermelon production was down about 7.7% from 1996.
